OCEANVIEW ACADEMY

An Online Homeschool Record Keeping PSP

Open for enrollment from June 1st-August 31st
For the 2023-2024 school year

MISSION

Oceanview Academy was founded with one purpose - to allow all children to grow and experience the true joy that comes from learning in a natural way. Here at Oceanview we serve all families. Our philosophy is drawn from Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

I am a homeschooling parent of four children, and have been on this journey for 9 years now. Over the years, as I've mentored other families (especially through these troubling times),  I have come to believe that anyone can homeschool with the right support and knowledge. Oceanview PSP is a way for me to help other homeschooling parents by taking the uncertainty and burden of paperwork off, and letting them focus on the more important things in life.

YOU CAN HOMESCHOOL!

We believe that every child is unique. We believe that you love your child and want the best for them. We believe that with the freedom to explore the world and all the wonders that we have been given, you and your child can succeed.

WHAT IS A PSP?

A PSP is a private school which has filed an affidavit with the state, meaning that the PSP is now operating as a private school in the state of California.  When you sign up to homeschool with a PSP, you become a designated teacher for your homeschool. You have the freedom to teach your students in the way they learn best, while the PSP administrator manages the records required by California's Department of Education, as well as checks in periodically to maintain progress and accountability.  For example, the administrator will ask you to turn in the required attendance records and course of study each year. This is not complicated and easy to do. Furthermore, the PSP may provide additional services to support your homeschool.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM OCEANVIEW ACADEMY?

We will provide the following-

  •  Request cumulative records from previous school.

  •  Maintain all student records that are legally required in California, e.g. attendance, cumulative record.

  •  Transfer cumulative records to any new school in which the student enrolls.

  •  Provide verification of student enrollment.

  •  Provide verification of teacher status for parents of enrolled students.

  •  Generate report cards upon request.

  •  Provide curriculum guidance, encouragement, and support.

ENROLLMENT

  • Enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year is between June 1st-August 31st. We enroll students throughout the year. Having a set enrollment time helps with processing time.

  • Newly applying parents must meet with the Director in person, over the phone or via zoom to make sure Oceanview PSP is the right fit for their family.

  • Families must reside in California and not be a part of any other public or private school or charter.

  • Parents will fill out the enrollment form, send required paperwork to the school and pay fees.

  • Students must be in, or entering, 1st-8th grade.

  • Families may enroll anytime. Most commonly, this will be during the summer months (June-August) for the upcoming school year; however, we are happy to discuss with prospective families throughout the year. New families will complete an initial interview, in addition to filling out the enrollment paperwork and submitting fees.

TUITION

  • Annual tuition for 2023-2024 per family is $300.00

  • One time enrollment fee of $75.00 per family is required

  • If a family has more than 4 students an additional fee of $25 per student will apply to annual tuition

Parents' Responsibilities

Parents are responsible for their child's education, which includes meeting their needs emotionally, physically, and academically. This can look very different in each family. You may choose to teach everything yourself, or gather friends to form a co-op/group and take turns teaching subjects. You may do some online classes either recorded or live, to help with some subjects that you don't feel comfortable teaching. You may want to hire a tutor for your child to help with a certain subject. The options are endless.

Welcome to the freedom that is homeschooling.

"Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel."

This quote from Socrates is as true today as it was two thousand years ago, and it sums up what home education is meant to be. I hope it brings a smile to your face and puts hope in your heart.
